Yeshwant is a Bollywood Hindi film released on 27 September 2011. Starring Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor and Lara Dutta in the lead roles. Based on Martin Mills's novel called The Godfathers, it is a romantic thriller film directed by Milind Ukey. This movie belongs to the genres of thriller and drama with some comedy bits thrown in for good measure. Akshay Kumar also co-produced the movie while Big FM Radio Limited had invested about US$16 million on production of this movie which was released on 27 September 2011 all over India which has been reported as a commercial success by Box Office India reporting that its worldwide gross stood at ₹101 crore (US$16 million). The film is about two young men who are sworn enemies... one played by Anil Kapoor and the other by Akshay Kumar... both (Kumar & Kapoor) are orphans and best friends, who grow up together in Mumbai. Akshay's character is an orphan, whereas Anil's character has never known anything but the streets. Both men belong to an underworld gang whose turf has been given up to another gang. They call themselves "Godfathers" (because once you're called a Godfather, no one can touch you). They want to take control of this newly-acquired territory, but their boss (known only as "Mallu") has his ambitions in mind for them. He takes them both to Dubai to work for him. They refuse to listen to his orders and on their way back home, they get involved in a car accident where Mallu dies, leading to chaos. Akshay's character gets out of the car and leaves it behind. He is aware of this crime but he doesn't know what actions he will be compelled to take if his friend kills the girl's brother (also played by Anil Kapoor). The girl (played by Lara Dutta) has just arrived from London, while Akshay is about to leave the country with his friend for good. At this point, the two men are faced with two options: live in hiding or surrender themselves. Things become complicated when Mallu's daughter (played by Nargis Fakhri) enters the picture and the two men must decide which of them is stronger and can lead the way. The movie grossed worldwide making it a commercial success. In India, the movie had a good opening with an occupancy of 40% at 50 screens in its opening weekend. In its second week, it had a drop of 47% due to movies releasing on that weekend. In its third week, it released on all screens and so occupied around 50% at box office in India with a total collection of 7 crores nett in 3 days. It was declared the highest grossing Bollywood movie of 2011. The film received mostly negative reviews from critics. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama rated the movie 2/5 and gave it a "B" saying that "Yeshwant has to wait for long to be able to make up its mind about where it wants to go, what it wants to say and what kind of people it wants us to empathise with." Ashwin Kumar at times finds the screenplay interesting but his compulsive love for songs prevents him from getting fully absorbed in the story. More often than not, he finds himself bored and exasperated by the lack of characterisation. cfa1e77820
